What could
there be to do on such a little slip of an island? You'd probably be surprised.
What would you like to do? The Daufuskie Island Club and Resort (membership privileges included with your rental) is just a few minutes away from the house and provides all of the usual resort amenities: golf, tennis, oceanside pools and whirlpool. An Equestrian Center. A fitness center with saunas. Need some help decompressing? Schedule a massage with Lois, then hop in the whirlpool. Better yet, walk to the club, hit the sauna, get a massage, then hop in the whirlpool. Crawl home.
What do we like to do when we're staying on Daufuskie? Well, the golf nuts like to golf, but the rest of us? We're readers. And you will find books on the shelves. Readable books, including an assortment from local authors Billy Burn, Roger Pinckney and Bo Bryan. We play cards. We watch the birds. One time we counted 14 Egrets in the tree right off the back deck. We star gaze
and walk on the beach at night. We draw. We paint. We exercise our cameras. Are you a writer? Bring your journal; you'll be inspired. If you're an early riser, the sunrises from the deck can be pretty magical. And the beach is right out the door. A big, wide, beautiful beach that that you'll probably have all to yourselves. It's an excellent beach for walking. And we like to kayak. If you like to kayak, we can put you in touch with someone who can rent you boats for the duration of your stay. Sometimes we fish. Sometimes we go crabbing. Sometimes we just sit and watch the ships passing by in the ocean.
Have a hankerin' to get married? That can happen here (and has) without a whole lot of effort. Right on the beach in front of the house. There's also a wonderful church on the island and you will be welcome there. Call ahead for information about services. If you don't
feel like cooking, you can grab a meal at one of the restaurants at the
club or you can catch a ride to Marshside Mama's for a very fine casual
dinner. Beth, at Marshside's, is an excellent chef. There are sightseeing tours around the island and a water taxi can take you over to Harbour Town on Hilton Head Island for some shopping. You can take a water cruise. We like to take day trips into Savannah or Beaufort, both lovely cities. If you like history, you'll go wild in Savannah. And we almost hate to say it, but the house is a great place to work. Need to gather employees together for a concentrated head-banging session? You won't be interrupted. There's a business center in the clubhouse for support services. Or maybe you just need to rest. Daufuskie Island is a very good place for resting. |
